Every year a huge idol of Lord Ganesha or Sarvajanik Ganapati is placed at the Lalbaug area of Mumbai. This is one of the most known and visited idols of Mumbai during the 10 days festival of Ganesh Chaturthi.
In 1934, a few fishermen placed a vow to Ganesha for construction of the present Lalbaug Market at its existing place as the earlier market at Peru Chawl was shut downin 1932. Their wish was fulfilled and they for the first time established the Ganesh idol on 12 September 1934.
Since then, this idol of Lord Ganesh has become popular as ‘Lalbaugcha Raja’ – ” the idol that fulfills the wishes of true devotees.”
Below is a video of collection of Lalbaugcha Raja’s photographs since 1934.
